Chamber President Asks for Restaurant Support

 In Chamber News

To Governor Charlie Baker Senate President Karen E. Spilka Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo,

The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce represents over 400 businesses throughout the greater Haverhill area. There are nearly 50 restaurant and food service establishments in our membership. Most are locally-owned and without reserves. As you know there has been a significant loss of revenue due to restrictions placed on these establishments in response to COVID-19.

We respectfully request on behalf of our restaurant members, that you consider passing legislation allowing for takeout beer, wine and liquor sales. This will help further alleviate the burden that our restaurants are feeling and allow them to retain their employees. We have heard from several restaurants that are considering staff layoffs and possible business closure. We are fearful that many of these establishments will be unable to reopen once the ban has been lifted unless further action is taken.

Respectfully submitted,

Dougan Sherwood

President & CEO
