Haverhill’s downtown will become the center of a festive holiday party, complete with a visit from Santa, arts and crafts, holiday shopping, and plenty of entertainment.

The fun begins with a Holiday Hat Parade sponsored by ServPro.  Families can meet on Essex Street for the short parade around the Riverfront Cultural District.  Led by Mayor James Fiorentini and the Salvation Army’s Brass Band, the parade will start the event with great fanfare.

“The Christmas Stroll is a holiday tradition.  Downtown Haverhill comes alive with families and businesses kicking-off the holiday season.  It’s important for residents to connect with local retailers and restaurants to support the community” says Beverly Donovan, President and CEO of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce.

Children can decorate cookies at The Inside View, enjoy face painting and balloon art at TD Bank and hop on the Haverhill Bank Holiday Express Train for a tour of the downtown.   Mary Poppins will deliver some holiday magic at Haverhill Family Eye Care and everyone’s favorite snowman will be on hand for photo opportunities.   A map of activities will be available at the Chamber tent located in Washington Square.

Visitors can also find some unique holiday gifts at Lioness Boutique and Positive Images located on Wingate Street.  In addition, The Friends of the Haverhill Public Library will have a pop-up shop at Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant with some great treasures that highlight Haverhill’s history and community pride.

Of course visitors can enjoy great food and refreshments at the many downtown restaurants and cafes.  Fried dough, cotton candy and hot chocolate will also be available as residents enjoy the event.

Music and entertainment will be highlighted throughout the event. Wandering carolers and a saxophone quartet will perform holiday songs and music.  The main stage in Washington Square will host the 2016 Haverhill Idol winners, Be Imagine youth bands, Thomasina Glenn and the Haverhill High School Concert/Jazz Band.  Soprano, Aliana de la Guardia, will also delight visitors with her performance of classical holiday music.

This year’s Holiday Stroll is made possible by generous support from the local business community. Sponsors include Haverhill Bank, National Grid, Bethany Homes, Haverhill Family Eye Care, MedExpress Urgent Care, Pentucket Medical Associates, TD Bank, Trinity EMS, Creative Haverhill, HC Media, Be Imagine Music Studio, and Phoenix Rising Spiritual Center.
